Albuquerque has more live theatre than any city in the nation per capita. And we’re growing. Every year more companies are formed, more productions are mounted, and another venue opens its doors. As New Mexico’s reputation as a locale for arts of all kinds flourishes, the theatre scene is set to take off on the national level.
The venues, companies, performers, and designers add up to a formidable infrastructure for this all important step. But to keep the best and brightest here in town, we must be offering professional gigs. As long as people believe that one must go to New York or Los Angeles to make it as a working actor, it will be true. In the future, people will move to Albuquerque, New Mexico seeking fame and fortune.
Aux Dog is committed to paving the way for the future of live theatre here in the Duke City. This means high quality production values, financial compensation for those who make the shows happen, and most importantly, audiences. But Aux Dog can’t do it alone.
Other theatres in town such as The Cell, Mother Road, and Tricklock are already pioneering this new age of performing arts. More should follow in their footsteps. Any legitimate theatre community requires healthy review. The relationship between critics and performers is vital for keeping playhouses in check. And, of course, audiences are what makes it all possible. Aux Dog is dedicated to being responsible for entertaining and pleasing its audience.
Working with The Albuquerque Theatre Guild, Aux Dog has set its sights to this future.
